A well-made, patriotic blue souvenir t-shirt, a wide selection of fruits, waters, sports drinks, bagels and juices in the finish tent, a gu and a bunch of useful coupons in the goodie bag, and a confidence-boosting PR - not bad for a morning's run.

Also! Columbia people! Lucero is playing the Blue Note the first Saturday in August; I am filled with anger that I will be on the wrong side of the state, but ALL OF YOU should go. And see the wonderfulness of them. And drink whiskey in my honor. Maybe buy Ben Nichols a whiskey, he'd like that. (Their MySpace, with streaming songs, in case you didn't download the music I posted a few weeks back, because you hate me, clearly.)
The night before, they're playing Lawrence, Kansas. I might be able to make it to that one if my boss says I can leave work early. Gahhhhh. &LUCERO;
I just completely gorged myself on pretzels and now I feel kind of ill. Seacrest out.

They tore it down about five years ago. Nothing but a flat city block now, and no evidence the school ever existed except maybe remnants of sidewalk here and there. (The high school was torn down as well a few years earlier.)
Captions follow each pic. (Click the pics for better resolution.)
On my first day of kindergarten I freaked out upon entering through that door in the corner with all the kids sitting there. I refused to go to my desk, and for almost a month I sat in a chair near the door. Recess was the thing that saved the day eventually.

Wow! I didn't realize how liberating and satisfying running just 5K could be! Not only was I done in less than an hour thereby leaving the rest of the day free to do whatever I want, but I also worked up a great sweat and still had endorphins coursing through my body. These endorphins are ready to help me take on every new challenge today has to offer. It's an odd feeling for me because I usually use up all my endorphins and then some on the 6 or 7 more miles of running I do after hitting the 5K mark.
I swear, if I would have known about this feeling earlier in my running career, I might have only been running 5Ks for the past 9 years!
Usually, I get back from a run feeling a but tired, worn down and ready to retire. But right now I feel excited, pumped up and ready to take on 359 more 5Ks!!!!
VIVA LA 5K!!!

a while back some wonderful person posted links to a website that featured brown & blue as well as brown & pink pieces - comforters, wall art, you name it.
sadly, i had to reformat my computer and have lost the links, nor can i remember the name of the site. i've tried googling these words but haven't found anything.
does anyone know what this site is? i'd be eternally grateful!!
thanks.
How many of you fine ladies and gentlemen have read Craig Clevenger's works? He's an amazing writer with 2 novels out so far: The Contortionist's Handbook and Dermaphoria. He's been praised by Chuck Palahniuk and Irvine Welsh, and cites Jim Thompson, James M. Cain, Edgar Allan Poe, Richard Matheson, Italo Calvino, Kobo Abe, Steve Erickson, Mark Danielewski, Will Christopher Baer, Seth Morgan, James Ellroy, Michael Hogan, John O'Brien, Michael Ventura and Rupert Thomson as his inspiration.
But enough namedropping... flash back to last year. I made a promise to myself not to reread any books until I finished the massive pile of unread ones. I bought Dermaphoria for $5 at a used book store and the second I finished it, I flipped it over and started from the beginning. Dermaphoria and House of Leaves are the only 2 books that have resulted in me frantically writing journal entries in an attempt to dissect everything about the story's meaning at three in the morning. It's one of my favourite novels, and I recommend it for any fan of surreal fiction with heaps of wordplay and drugs and a tablespoon of love thrown in. The prose is very stylized and ridiculously beautiful. For example:
"The time flies. The time flies feed on rotting clocks."
"The evening shadows bleed like fresh ink until they've covered the ground. The desert air soaks them up, staining the sky deep blue, the color of morning glory petals. The sweeping hands of the enomous outdoor clock make me dizzy. I stare at my feet and let Toe Tag guide me. My legs are still numb and I can't risk slipping on a shadow."
I could type out a thousand more quotes or kind words but at the end of the day, all there is to do is to decide for yourselves.
